About this collection
I've been working with LDM (Lucid Digital Media) in Cambridge, Ontario on a series of murals for Sobeys and Foodland stores across the province. Each one is painted digitally on my iPad, then printed and mounted at the store. Entrance and exit murals are paired for each location, built around the culture that the town or city is known for.
Below are the locations that have murals so far.
Sobeys London
A London hockey player, the Western University tower, University Hospital, the rhino sculpture at the London Museum, the 1912 Soldiers' Monument, and a statue of Dr. Frederick Banting, all under the cherry blossoms London is known for.
Ayr Foodland
Hockey, a bald eagle nesting along the Nith River, and the grain silos that built the village, with Knox United's steeple watching over it all.
Curling, swans on the millpond, and the brick storefronts and library that anchor Ayr's main street.
Sobeys Kincardine
Blinky the lighthouse mascot, Paul Henderson's 1972 Summit Series goal, Kincardine's iconic lighthouse, a fishing tug, and a piper carrying on the town's Scottish roots.
Knox Presbyterian Church, a Highland dancer, a local girls' hockey goalie, Lambton Place, a war memorial cannon, and an Adirondack chair by the fire, the easy pace of small-town Ontario summer.
Sobeys Tillsonburg
The Turtlefest mascot George T. Turtle, an RCAF Harvard trainer, the Great Western Railway Station, a tobacco kiln, a tractor working the fields, Stompin' Tom Connors' ode to the town's tobacco-picking past.
The Public Library, a vintage car nodding to Turtlefest, Colin Campbell with his son Greg, the Stanley Cup, the Rotary Clock Tower, and a Victorian home under cherry blossoms.
Sobeys Grand Bend
The Grand Bend lighthouse and gateway sign, sailing and a sunset bonfire on the beach, gulls overhead, a vintage truck advertising the Pinery Antique Flea Market, and a Mustang repping Grand Bend Motorplex.
Sobeys Welland
The Welland Canal Memorial Monument, the canal's lift bridge and a freighter passing through, a baseball player, and roses, a nod to Welland's nickname as the Rose City.
